We’ve arrived at the time in the legislative session when Legislators are considering the state’s budget for the next fiscal year. The Iowa Iowa Association of Christian Schools is working on two budget requests that make a meaningful difference for many of our schools and families:
1. Restoration of textbook funding for nonpublic school students that was cut back several years ago during the previous adminstration. Currently the state makes available about $600,000 for the purchase of textbooks and technology. We are asking for an increase to $700,000 (what it was about five years ago before budget cuts).
2. Increase in funding for transportation services for nonpublic school students. Fully funding this line item would cost about $9.7 million. The state currently limits this funding to $8.6 million.
Students who attend Iowa’s private schools save the state millions of dollars because their parents and parishes cover the vast majority of the costs of their education.
Please take a moment to send a message to your legislator on these issues. Thank you for taking action!
